About

In the autumn of 2023, I stumbled upon the early church as a very low-information evangelical. I had always been interested in apologetics and philosophy since high school. At one point, I considered going to seminary, which I now think was a blessing from God that I didn’t pursue, as my inquiring nature and desire to convert to Orthodoxy would have made it an even greater struggle.

Encountering the early church made me realize how little I actually understood about my faith and, really, how wrong my faith was in many places—how I believed dangerous and errant theology. I didn’t know much about church history, let alone Protestant history. I had the basic, propagandized view of Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Huldrych Zwingli.

Facing the early church forced me to confront hard theological and philosophical truths about Christianity, and this blog is just a repository for the things I am learning and wrestling with. I am not received into the Orthodox Church, though someday I hope to be baptized, chrismated, and communing. Because of this, do not take anything I say at face value. I will provide sources and citations, but I am by no means an expert or clergy. You should be catechized by a priest at a local Orthodox church for real teaching, spiritual guidance, and counseling. I simply think my struggle to enter what I believe is the one true church could be helpful to other Evangelical Christians who are seeking and searching. Maybe, like me, they feel something is just “off” in their churches and don’t have the language to articulate why.

So again: I am not clergy, nor am I a baptized Orthodox Christian. Go talk to a priest if you have questions. Think for yourself, as I attempt to do here, and don’t just take my word for it. I’m merely trying to work out my salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12).
